Classification (Professional Grade Promotion)

The Engineering Professions Practice System was issued by Royal Decree No. (M/36) dated 19/4/1438 AH based on Cabinet Resolution No. 223 dated 18/4/1438 AH, to regulate the practice of engineering professions in the Kingdom.

Article Two of the system and its executive regulations stipulate that no engineering profession may be practiced unless professional accreditation is obtained from the Commission. Professional accreditation requires first registration with the Commission and obtaining one of the professional accreditation categories based on academic qualifications. After that, the registered member is classified into the appropriate professional degree, which is the Engineer/Architect degree, Associate degree, Professional degree and Consultant degree, based on academic qualifications and previous experience in addition to passing a professional test.

Each professional degree has its own requirements and responsibilities, and the professionally accredited person must adhere to them, based on the second paragraph of Article Two of the Saudi Council of Engineers’ system, which stipulates “setting the rules and examinations necessary to obtain professional degrees,” based on the Council’s main objective of building distinguished engineering competencies that contribute effectively to the economic development of the Kingdom.
