The Saudi Council of Engineers, in cooperation with the National Committee for the Saudi Building Code, organized workshops entitled “Methodology for Modernizing the Saudi Building Code System,” in addition to organizing accompanying technical sessions on the sidelines of the workshops in Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah.The workshops were organized in the presence of His Excellency Governor of the Saudi Authority for Standards, Metrology and Quality, Chairman of the Saudi Building Code Committee, Dr. Saad Al-Qasabi, and His Excellency the Secretary General of the Saudi Council of Engineers, Engineer Abdel Nasser bin Saif Al-Abdul Latif. In addition to some leaders from the government and private sectors related to the application of the Saudi Building Code. The Authority’s Secretary General, Engineer Abdel Nasser Al-Abdul Latif, explained the importance of these workshops, which dealt with the updates of the Saudi Building Code and the roles it plays, and the most prominent achievements it provides to society, indicating that the workshops revealed the economic positives for the code, and the roles of government agencies, with the importance of motivating engineering offices and companies in applying the Saudi building code to buildings and facilities. Engineer Al-Abdullatif added that the workshops come at an important time in an effort by the authority and the committee to enrich the knowledge of specialists, those interested and those working in the building and construction sector, and to shed light on what is new regarding the building code, based on the importance of cooperation between different sectors to develop building and reconstruction methods and raise the level of engineers and technicians working in this field, and spreading awareness, enriching knowledge, and informing specialists and those interested in the methodology for updating the Saudi building code system.
The Secretary General of the Saudi Council of Engineers indicated that the technical sessions included two tracks, the first track dealt with the general Saudi code, the set of construction codes, the set of energy conservation codes, the Saudi code for residential buildings, and the Saudi code for swimming pools and spas. The second track dealt with the Saudi Electrical Code, the Saudi Mechanical Code, the Saudi Fire Protection Code, the set of health codes, the set of codes for existing buildings, the Saudi code for green buildings, and the Saudi code for fuel gas. It is noteworthy that the first workshops were launched in the city of Riyadh on September 3, 2023 AD, followed by the second workshop that was held in the city of Dammam in Jeddah on Sunday, September 7, 2023 AD, and the last workshops were organized in the city of Jeddah on Sunday, September 17, 2023 AD, which was the conclusion of the series of workshops on Methodology for updating the building code system.
